Hopefully summer is just around the corner so we need to think about what we want to do in the garden.

  • Bulbs are fading, so it’s a good idea to think about what colour and what summer bedding plants you want to plant. However, remember about frost—keep an eye on the weather forecasts and protect plants if we are due a frost.
  • If you are growing potatoes, remember to bank up the earth to protect them from light and frost—this will also encourage more potato growth.
  • Keep lawns mowed but consider, if possible, leaving an area to go wild and let it be enjoyed by the wildlife that it will encourage in the garden.
  • Think about hanging baskets and pots – a great way to add instant colour to the garden.
  • Lastly, grow an instant salad bar by the back door—get a big pot and plant lettuce, radishes, and other salad leaves to have a continuous supply.
